About

Background

SAID in STEM was founded in January 2019 at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. SAID in STEM began as a seminar series to raise awareness about equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) within the MIT community, while highlighting the achievements of individuals belonging to marginalized groups including women, people of colour, and LGBTQ leaders in the STEM fields.

MIT Campus

The series included two journal clubs, six guest lecturers, and attracted fifty-nine participants over seven seminars. Participants ranged from middle schoolers to graduate students and tenured faculty, building connections between diverse members of the Boston and Cambridge community.

Future Plans

SAID in STEM has moved to the Salk Institute of Biological Studies. As advocates for equity, diversity, and inclusion in STEM, we will be hosting a Wikipedia Edit-A-Thon and a seminar series at the Salk Institute.
